Welcome to Wrong Way Café

For a quick look at what Wrong Way Café offers, you can now take a look at our brochure (PDF) online. I haven’t mastered folding PDF documents on a computer screen, so the brochure reads from the top right of the first page down through the second page and then back to the top left of the first page to the middle of the first page. . . wow, that was a mouthful.

Attentive Staff? While I am trying to get around to replacing the following introduction to Wrong Way Café, written about a year ago, as you can tell there are more important areas of this website that need work. So, for the time being, it remains.

"Quite often I’m asked 'Why the name Wrong Way Café?' In an effort to explain, after too many beers, I once wrote the following somewhat ridiculous sentences:

The Big Boss"'You don’t realize it yet, but here you are, not even two hours from the mighty Mekong river which divides Thailand from Laos, on the edge of the Mun River. You can hear the giant “dog-eating” catfish jump (not for long though, as they’ve been re-listed by the World Conservation Union as “critically endangered,” which makes them particularly tasty). Now, you pause for a moment, because, normally, you don’t hear giant “dog-eating” catfish jumping and splashing on your journey home. The lake you are familiar with in your hometown has some perch, sunfish, and perhaps a few smallmouth bass, but nothing that would swallow Fido whole. You’ve been daydreaming as you walk, feeling it oddly warmer than usual. On your left should be the Union Evangelical Church, where you attended Sunday school, but it looks more like one of those Buddhist temples you saw on the Discovery Channel. Instead of an elderly congregation out front raking leaves, you see young Buddhist monks in orange robes sweeping. . . the dirt? That’s when it dawns on you. . . You’ve taken the Wrong Way Home! Well, relax. It’s just a momentary shock. Just around the corner there’s a place to sit down, have a coffee, beer, or whatever your poison, and think it through. Shoot some pool, get to know some of the local expats. You’re at the Wrong Way Café, a venue particularly suited to those individuals who find themselves suddenly a long way from home, on the wrong way home. You may like it so much you’ll want to stay a few days and get to know the area. We’re looking forward to having you stumble in.'

"I know, that's not much help."
